Ok, so gramarye1971 expressed an interest in seeing this back in this entry, so here it is.

Ok, I'm upset. I've been attempting to access this pdf file with data in it that I need to complete a project for politics (http://www.stats.gov.cn/english/statisticaldata/yearlydata/yarbook2003_e.pdf) pretty much all day and I just can't get to it. It won't open, it won't download. I'm starting to feel really stupid because I can't get it to work. Anyway, I'm trying not to let it get to me, but cheering up would definitely be appreciated. Fic rec? Amusing comic or quote? Advice about what I'm doing wrong? Anything.

I'm not going to tag anyone specific, but feel free to do it if you want. I had fun with it.

In real-update news, I'm headed back to C-ville in the morning for all of 3 days before I'm home again for a lengthy Thanksgiving break. I can't believe the semester is ending already...Yikes.

I realize this isn't a real update, but these things fascinate me. Taken from calchandler...It's actually pretty spot on, believe it or not.

If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, even if we don't speak often, please post a comment with a memory of you and me. It can be anything you want, either good or bad.

When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) about what people remember about you.

In a very good mood and felt the need to share.

Item 1: I aced a test that I came out of thinking I had failed. Not "failed" in the W&M sense of the word (ie I thought I got a B), but literally in the sense of sitting for 40 minutes *staring* at the test with a vague sense of betrayl. Ironically enough, the prof liked the essay I bs'ed better than the one I was sure I got right. Horrah! My test-taking skills are still sharp.

Item 2: I just got back from rehearsal, feeling super. I realize that I get cranky when I don't have the opportunity to sing (apparently the car and shower don't count). It helps that our director finally came to his senses and put me back on alto, and that the alto parts are really nice this week. Horrah! I can still sightread half-way decently.

Love to all. Especially those of you I haven't seen in awhile. *cyber glomps*

Ah, homecoming at the Alma Mater (loved of old). Last weekend was a ton of fun. I'm glad I got to see a bunch of people and hang out. A few things:

--The Shin-JHouse (as I've dubbed it) is incredibly cool, but for the lack of TV (and thus public gaming). Seriously, art? On the *walls*?! New kitchen of sparkling clean, high tech awesomeness? Geez, people. Live it up.

--The Choir concert was extremely fun, and not just because they sang some songs from my sophomore year. Massive amounts of people I hadn't seen in awhile showed up, including a pair of friends who just got married (and gave me a touching thank you for the painting of Wren I did for their present). I definitely had tears in my eyes during Shennandoah. ;_;

--Got to stop by club and see people briefly. Jury's still out on that shoujou series, though...

All-in-all, a very enjoyable weekend. Going back makes me appreciate just how great a place I went to school. Unfortunately, my productivity is shot to hell. Meh. Work. Anyway W&M folks, if I saw you, it made me happy! If I didn't, I'm sure I meant to, and expect a bigger glomp when next we meet. Osu!

What a weekend I’ve had. First off, I went to Williamsburg on Friday on the spur of the moment. I had a wedding I was attending on Saturday for a couple of kwah friends (it was so beautiful! They’re two of the sweetest people I know, and I feel like world peace is imminent now that they’re married), and figured I may as well go early and see people. So I went to Choir, got Indian with yumi and emusashi , went to WMAS and saw lilannan, revanad and geckoman, then played some smash bros. Very fun. Oh, and so you know, Yakitate Japan is the funniest thing ever! I wish I still went to W&M just so I could see the rest. HA! *ahem* yes.

The next morning I go to check into the motel where the wedding guests are staying and my car dies. Engine light flashing, shuddering and jumping when I put it in gear, the works. So I think I’m going to have to get it towed back to C-ville and ride with the tow truck man (sketchy!) but instead my parents come down, my dad drives my car all the way to the dealer back home while my mom and I follow him in case it explodes.

Long story short, it’s fixed now, but we’re trading it in. I also got to be home for some things I thought I’d have to miss, like a welcome home party for a friend recently returned from London and a memorial for my favorite teacher *ever* who, sadly, just died. Just goes to show, things happen for a reason.

Let me just say that working with little kids takes a lot out of you. Other than that, I'm surprised at how well I took to it (knock on wood) considering how I've always maintained that I dislike children. But yes, I spent most of my day following around a group of 2-3 year olds. Though they speak an incomprehensible language all their own half the time, they were super-cute and, for the most part, really sweet tempered. Another bit of time was spent as a human chair/playground/jungle gym for some 4-5 year olds, especially a little mynx called Morgan, who were literally crawling all over me for a good half hour. *sigh* At least I felt loved. By the end of the day I was watching this girl who was really down, (turns out she missed her mommy) and I almost felt bad that I had to leave at 5. Weird. I can honestly say I never expected to like working with kids. I really didn't. Of course, it's only been one day, but still.

Still working on posting my France pics. Figure I'll have to get photobucket or some such to do so. Eh. My laziness is compounded by exhaustion (translation: don't hold your breath)

So I've been to France and back since I last updated. It was fun. Visited my brother and sister-in-law, got a tan, ate lots of good food, read some books and even did some sketching. Overall, it was a great trip. I should start work soon, which will be interesting. I'm going to be a camp couselor. I've never really worked with kids, either, so wish me luck.

I am in shock, I think. I can't believe that the J-House as I knew and loved it is no more. Even though no one was hurt (thank goodness) I still feel this huge sense of loss. This was more than a building. It was one of the warmest communities I encountered at W&M. The first place to feel like home. I mean, after living there for three years, it *was* home. Please, all of you J-House tachi, let me know if there's anything I can do. Especially anime-wise, I am more than willing to donate DVD's, models, plushies, manga. You name it. I am so grateful there were no injuries. *hugs*

Hmm...I sure don't update this thing very often (considering I check my friends' LJs compulsively). Oh well. I am in a generally good mood, though I'm experiencing a bit of marathon withdrawl after finishing not one but *two* series/season of a series last week. Very different series (Alias, season 1 and Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon) but both quite good. But now I feel like time is passing more slowly because I'm not squeezing in episodes before class.

And, speaking of classes, I have picked a thesis research topic, I think. It's kinda depressing, but I think I'm going to read up on Unit 731 and the biological warfare/human experimentation and do a comparison to the same type of stuff that happened in Germany. Even though it's depressing, people I've talked to so far have said it's an interesting idea and, most importantly, there are faculty members who I can ask to be my advisors with this topic. As opposed to medieval Japanese lit (my first choice) which will have no permanent prof till *after I leave*. Grr. Stupid UVA. Of course, being that this only really affects me, one out of thousands of students, I can understand on one level why it's not a priority for the school, but it still pisses me off and makes me feel like I was lured here under false pretenses.

Wow. That got bitter. Sorry <=(

I really am in a good mood, honest! The weather has been lovely, which helps. Calchandler's visit also made my month, I'm pretty sure. =) Horrah for friends! *hugs*

Wow! Tonight was the Japanese Club's "Japan Day" celebration, with a DDR competition, kimono trying-on, caligraphy lessons, sushi and tea ceremony (which I did! It rocked). It was *so* fun! And the best part is I spent the last half hour chatting with this supercool Japanese family and they may want me to tutor their kids in English! Awesome!! I am so psyched!

Well, I've just had a thoroughly enjoyable Easter with the family. I'm particularly proud of the egg I painted to look like the Chat Noir poster that I saw this weekend at the Toulouse-Latrec exhibit downtown. =) I also received some great candy in a bunny-themed basket, as well as a bunch of home-cooked meals. Hoo+rah.

A couple of questions: Calchandler, can you still hook me up with the live action SM? Gramarye, when would be best for *you* if I were to visit this summer?

And on a completely other level of awesomeness, I am now in possession of a Season 4 ReBoot DVD. Yes, you read correctly. It's 2 feature length films that (so far) comprise the 4th and final season of one of my *favorite* Saturday morning cartoons. I hope there's more eventually, because the cliff-hanger ending is a killer. But yes, so happy.

For prizes in cereal boxes and good old Saturday morning cartoons! Anyone have anything in particular to add? Something you miss from your youth? I have a list of tv series I would love to see come out on DVD...

Now that I've officially had my first "freak out" at UVA, I can get on with my life. Honestly, don't you think a little panic is normal? What with people *constantly* asking "So, what are you going to do?" and basically insinuating that one's chosen field of post-graduate study doesn't seem very practical for finding a job...So I don't know what I'm going to do. So freaking what. So my work is really hard and kicking my ass right now. It's my life and my ass. I'll allow myself to bemoan my lack of focus and vent my frustration for...let's say, 20 minutes. Then I'll make some cocoa, do something frivilous for a half hour or so, then get back to work. Done.

Frankly, I think giving the cat back might have affected me more than I thought it had.
